Lahore, Pakistan – Heavy monsoon showers lashed the city, shattering a 44-year-old record with 350 millimeters of rain in just three hours. The Met Office predicts strong monsoon currents will continue to bring torrential rains across the country from August 1 to 6.
The downpour inundated roads and streets, disrupting daily life in the provincial capital. Electricity supply was also affected, with 288 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripping. The company has appealed to consumers to exercise restraint as teams work to restore supply.
Several areas, including Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, and Model Town, were severely affected. Rainwater entered homes in Tajpura and even flooded the Services Hospital, causing difficulties for patients and doctors.
The highest rainfall was recorded at the airport, with 337 millimeters. Other cities in Punjab, such as Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Wazirabad, also experienced heavy rain, breaking the intense humidity.
