Peshawar : Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, clarified that the Kurram Grand Jirga has not concluded, as parties have requested an additional day for consultation. Speaking to Geo News, Barrister Saif explained that the break was to allow discussions regarding the removal of bunkers and the collection of weapons, in line with the Cabinet’s decisions.
He emphasized that eliminating bunkers and making the area weapon-free are essential for lasting peace in Kurram. Saif dismissed rumors of the jirga’s collapse as baseless and suggested that spreading such news could be the work of those seeking to disrupt peace efforts.
Barrister Saif further advised against unnecessary propaganda on social media that could harm the peace process. He acknowledged the government’s awareness of the issues caused by road blockages and assured that necessary medicines are being delivered to the region via the Chief Minister’s helicopter, while injured individuals are being airlifted to Peshawar for treatment.
The Minister revealed that the Chief Minister had directed the Food Department to send 2,000 metric tons of wheat to the region. Describing Kurram’s issue as a 120-year-old problem, Barrister Saif noted that while its resolution might take time, serious efforts are being made under the Chief Minister’s leadership. He expressed hope that in the coming days, the issue would be resolved and lasting peace would prevail in the region.
