PESHAWAR:( The COW News Digital)- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is observing a day of mourning after devastating cloudbursts and flash floods claimed more than 200 lives. Buner district is the worst-hit, where at least 213 deaths have been reported across Pir Baba, Gokand, Chagharzi, and Gadezi.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, dozens of houses, vehicles, and shops have been washed away. Hospitals in Daggar and Pacha Kallay are overwhelmed with bodies and the injured, with 46 patients still in critical condition.
The provincial government has declared Saturday a day of mourning to honour five crew members who embraced martyrdom when a rescue helicopter crashed. Flags are flying at half-mast, while Buner, Bajaur, Mansehra, and Battagram have officially been declared disaster-hit areas.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has directed troops to speed up relief operations. Soldiers have donated one day’s salary to victims, and over 600 tonnes of army rations have been dispatched.
Meanwhile, in Gilgit-Baltistan, floods and landslides have claimed 12 lives, destroying hundreds of homes, mosques, and roads. Relief goods including tents, medicines, and food supplies are being distributed to affected families.
