Khadijah Shah Relinquishes US Citizenship for NA Reserved Seat on PTI Ticket

Renowned fashion designer Khadijah Shah has announced her decision to relinquish her US citizenship to accept a reserved National Assembly seat for women on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket. This move comes after former Prime Minister Imran Khan offered her the seat, and Shah expressed her gratitude and honor at being considered.

Shah’s decision to give up her US citizenship, which guarantees freedom, safety, and opportunity, was not taken lightly. However, she emphasized her commitment to Pakistan, her motherland, and her desire to make a difference for its people. Shah has personally experienced “unimaginable injustice” over the last year and a half, but this adversity has instilled a sense of purpose within her.

Until her dual nationality issue is resolved, Shah has nominated Mehrunnisa Sajjad, an Oxford University graduate and barrister, to represent her. Sajjad has dedicated her career to advocating for the marginalized and downtrodden in Pakistan and shares Shah’s passion for fighting for their rights, establishing genuine democracy, and driving progress in Pakistan.

Shah’s decision to join politics comes after her arrest and incarceration on charges of vandalism and rioting following the May 9 riots. Despite facing challenges, Shah remains committed to her vision for Pakistan and is determined to make a positive impact.
