The residents of Karachi are bracing themselves for a significant change in weather, as the Met Department predicts rain accompanied by thunder for tomorrow. The city, currently basking in clear and bright sunshine, is expected to experience a drastic shift in conditions as monsoon winds enter eastern Sindh today.
According to the Meteorological Department, today’s maximum temperature in Karachi is forecasted to reach 34 degrees Celsius, while the current temperature stands at 27 degrees Celsius. Despite the sunny weather, residents are advised to prepare for the possibility of rainfall, which could bring much-needed relief from the heat.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz says the sixth spell of monsoon will enter Sindh today, bringing heavy rain in the province. However, he adds that there is no possibility of torrential rain in Karachi. Instead, there is a high chance of rain in the suburbs, while some areas of the city may experience moderate to light rain.
The predicted rain comes as a relief to the city, which has been experiencing hot and humid weather for weeks. However, it also raises concerns about the city’s infrastructure and preparedness for heavy rainfall. In recent years, Karachi has struggled to cope with heavy rain, resulting in flooding and disruptions to daily life.
In addition to the weather forecast, Karachi’s air quality continues to be a concern. The city has been ranked 14th among the most polluted cities in the world, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI). Within Pakistan, Karachi holds the third position among the most polluted cities.
The Met Department has issued a broader weather advisory for various parts of Pakistan, predicting rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder in several regions. These include Islamabad, Thatta, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Dadu, and Umarkot, as well as cities in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
