According to police and rescue officials, incidents of indiscriminate gunfire erupted across multiple neighborhoods in Karachi as the clock struck midnight, despite repeated warnings from law enforcement urging the public to refrain from aerial firing. The gunfire, a dangerous and illegal practice often seen during celebrations, caused chaos in various parts of the city.

Rescue sources confirmed that the young girl was killed in the Azizabad Block 8 area when she was struck by a stray bullet. Another victim, identified as a man named Stephen, lost his life in the Korangi 3½ neighborhood under similar circumstances. The identity of the third victim has not yet been officially disclosed.

Dozens of the injured were rushed to several hospitals across Karachi, including Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and private medical facilities in Gulistan-e-Johar. Medical staff reported that many of the wounded sustained serious injuries, with some requiring emergency surgeries.

In an official statement, Karachi police confirmed the arrest of more than 20 suspects allegedly involved in aerial firing. Authorities seized a number of weapons and rounds of ammunition from the detainees, registering multiple cases under firearms and public safety laws. Police officials reiterated their commitment to enforcing strict measures to curb such reckless acts, which have claimed lives and caused severe injuries in past celebrations as well.

While the city reeled from the violence, other parts of Pakistan marked Independence Day with vibrant displays. Karachi’s major roads and high-rise buildings were adorned with lights, flags, and decorative banners, transforming the skyline. In Islamabad, colorful illuminations and patriotic music created a festive atmosphere as families took to public spaces to enjoy the national holiday.

The tragic events in Karachi have reignited debates over public safety during celebrations, with calls for stricter enforcement of the ban on aerial firing. Civic activists and medical professionals have urged citizens to celebrate responsibly to prevent further loss of life on occasions meant to unite the nation in joy and pride.
