Justice Ali Baqar Najafi sworn in as Supreme Court judge

Newly appointed Justice Ali Baqar Najafi formally took the oath of office as a Supreme Court judge on Wednesday morning.

According to the channel report, the oath was administered by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, in a solemn ceremony in the Supreme Court building in Islamabad.

As per the channel report, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi will serve as a judge of the Supreme Court until 14 September 2028.

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law following the approval of President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari yesterday, Justice Najafi’s elevation to the apex court has been formally confirmed. His nomination had earlier been approved by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.

Born on 15 September 1963 in Lahore, Punjab, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi has been serving as a senior judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) since 16 April 2012. He has also been an active member of the Administration Committee of the LHC.

Justice Najafi completed his graduation from Government College University, Lahore, and earned his LLB from University Law College, Punjab University, in 1989. 

He started his legal practice the same year and became an advocate of the High Court, eventually qualifying to practice in the Supreme Court of Pakistan as well.

In addition to his distinguished legal career, Justice Najafi has also contributed significantly to legal education. 

He served as a faculty member at Punjab University Law College for 12 years and taught at various private law colleges for 18 years. 

He also worked as both an internal and external examiner for the University of the Punjab and taught subjects including public international law.
