Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has ruled out joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) proposed grand alliance, citing past experiences where opposition parties prioritize self-interest over collective goals. Naeem emphasized that JI will maintain its independent stance, collaborating with opposition parties on specific issues but avoiding alliances.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser had announced plans to form a grand opposition alliance, seeking to unite parties against the government. However, Naeem expressed skepticism, highlighting the tendency of parties to prioritize self-interest within alliances.

JI is currently leading protests against inflated electricity bills and high taxes, with the government engaging in negotiations to address their concerns. Naeem criticized the government’s lack of seriousness in these negotiations, reiterating JI’s commitment to continuing sit-ins until their demands are met.

The JI chief also raised concerns about the transparency of Independent Power Producers’ (IPPs) contracts, requesting the government to disclose the details. Naeem emphasized JI’s focus on providing relief to the masses, independent of alliances.
