India’s Jay Shah has officially assumed the role of Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), marking a significant leadership change in the global cricket body. The transition comes after Greg Barclay’s tenure ended on November 30. Barclay, who had announced his decision to step down in August, had initially led the ICC since 2020.

Following Barclay’s resignation, Jay Shah was unanimously elected as ICC Chairman, and today he took charge of the position.

In his first statement after assuming office, Shah expressed his pride in becoming the ICC Chairman and thanked the ICC directors and board members for their trust and support.

It is worth noting that prior to his resignation, there were speculations about an extension of Barclay’s term by a week due to a deadlock over the ICC Champions Trophy. However, Shah’s appointment marks the conclusion of this uncertainty.
