Jamaat-i-Islami Calls Off Sit-in as Govt Agrees to Form Task Force

In a significant development, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has called off its sit-in protest after the government agreed to form a task force to address the party’s demands. Talks between JI and the government resumed on Tuesday after a five-day gap, leading to a breakthrough.

The government delegation, led by Mr. Naqvi, included Information Minister Tarar, while the JI delegation was led by Liaqat Baloch, along with Amirul Azeem, Syed Farasat Shah, and Nasrullah Randhawa. JI emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also attended the meeting.

Hafiz Naeem had earlier rejected the “double, triple” tax system and insisted on a written agreement with the government. He warned that people were worried and “this lava can erupt anytime.”

The government’s agreement to form a task force has led to the calling off of the sit-in, but it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
