Gaza: The Israeli military’s claim of killing a key Hamas leader in Gaza has been proven false, as the commander was recently seen alive.

According to Israeli media, the military had announced on May 24, 2024, that it had targeted Hussain Fayyad, the head of the Al-Qassam Brigades’ Beit Hanoun Battalion, during a joint operation involving the Israeli Defense Forces’ 98th Division, the Israeli Air Force Special Forces, and other units. The military had claimed that Fayyad was killed in an underground tunnel during the operation.

However, recent footage from Gaza shows Hussain Fayyad addressing a crowd at a funeral, contradicting the Israeli military’s statement. Following the video’s release, the Israeli military acknowledged its failure to eliminate the Hamas commander.

In a statement, the military admitted that its announcement in May 2024 was based on the intelligence available at the time. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the information was inaccurate.

This incident highlights the challenges and complexities of intelligence operations in conflict zones.
