Gaza City( The COW News Digital)Israeli forces opened fire on a group of Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid in northern Gaza, killing at least 67 people and injuring dozens more, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The victims were reportedly gathered near United Nations aid trucks delivering essential food supplies when they were struck by gunfire.
The Health Ministry, administered by Hamas, said the incident occurred on Sunday as civilians awaited the arrival of a 25-truck convoy from the World Food Programme (WFP). WFP confirmed that its convoy came under heavy fire shortly after crossing into northern Gaza, emphasizing the increasing difficulty in delivering life-saving aid in the besieged enclave.
The Israeli military acknowledged firing what it described as “warning shots” but denied responsibility for the high number of casualties. A military spokesperson claimed the crowd posed a potential threat and said the situation was under review.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen. The Health Ministry reported that 18 more people died in the last 24 hours due to starvation, bringing the week’s total deaths from hunger to over 100. Hospitals are overwhelmed, lacking sufficient medical supplies and personnel to treat the rising number of casualties.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Kahlout, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, described the situation as “catastrophic,” noting that the influx of wounded patients far exceeds the facility’s capacity. A local mother, speaking to British media, tearfully explained how her children were surviving only on water and salt.
Sunday’s violence wasn’t limited to northern Gaza. According to Gaza’s Civil Defense, a total of 93 Palestinians were killed across the territory in the past 24 hours, with reports of strikes on aid distribution centers in Rafah and Khan Younis as well.
The United Nations warns that over 90,000 women and children in Gaza are currently facing acute malnutrition. WFP estimates that every third person in Gaza has gone several days without food. Calls are mounting for immediate international intervention to establish secure humanitarian corridors and prevent further loss of life.
As tensions escalate and humanitarian access narrows, the international community faces increasing pressure to act decisively to halt the crisis and protect civilians.
