Islamabad IG Issues Notices to 11 Individuals Over False Social Media Propaganda

Islamabad: The Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad has issued notices to 11 individuals accused of spreading false propaganda on social media, allegedly aimed at creating unrest in the country.

The accused, including Sabghatullah Warak, Muhammad Arshad, Atta-ur-Rehman, Azhar Mashwani, Arusa Nadeem Shah, Muhammad Ali Malik, Shahzaib Warak, Musa Warak, Ikram Khatana, Taqveem Siddique, and Muhammad Noman Afzal, have been summoned by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on December 24.

The federal government formed the JIT under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, to curb social media-related crimes. The JIT has been tasked with investigating the accused and identifying their motives.

According to sources, the team is working to determine the underlying objectives of these individuals and their associates. The investigation has reportedly uncovered solid evidence against the accused, and further identification of offenders is underway. Legal action will be taken under applicable laws.

The case underscores the government’s efforts to combat misinformation and propaganda on digital platforms, which officials claim pose a threat to national stability.
