A concerning development has emerged in Islamabad, as the first polio case in 16 years has been reported in Union Council number 4. This brings the total number of polio cases this year to 17 nationwide, marking a significant setback in the country’s fight against the disease.
Health officials, including Ayesha Raza Farooq, have confirmed the case and are raising alarms about the resurgence of the virus in the capital after more than a decade. In response, the government is intensifying efforts to reach every child with the polio vaccine, as stated by Anwar-ul-Haq, Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center.
Health authorities are ramping up immunization drives to prevent further cases, as the polio virus continues to pose a threat to the nation’s children.
