The Islamabad High Court has ordered a detailed report on the extradition of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui to US authorities by Friday. The court is seeking answers on whether the ISI had evidence against Dr. Siddiqui and the authority to transfer her and her children to the US.
Dr. Siddiqui’s sister, Fauzia Siddiqui, urged the Pakistani government to assist in her return, citing the current US administration as a potential opportunity. Aafia’s lawyer, Mr. Smith, submitted an affidavit stating that the Sindh government handed Dr. Siddiqui and her children over to the ISI in 2003, who then transferred them to the US.
The court has asked two key questions:
- Did the ISI have evidence related to Dr. Siddiqui?
- Did the ISI have the mandate to transfer Dr. Siddiqui and her children to another party?
The Additional Attorney General requested that questions related to agencies be kept separate, but the court instructed for a detailed report on the judiciary’s questions by Friday.
