ISLAMABAD: Following the directives of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, a comprehensive cleanliness operation has been initiated to dispose of sacrificial animal waste during Eid-ul-Adha.
A joint operations control room, involving the CDA, district administration, and Islamabad Police, has been activated to address public complaints and oversee security, traffic management, and city-wide sanitation efforts. The control room will also monitor operations through drone surveillance, conduct rosewater sprays, and ensure prompt waste disposal.
The city has been divided into five zones for effective management:
- Zone One includes F-5, F-6, Blue Area, and Saidpur.
- Zone Two comprises Faisal Mosque, E-7, F-7, F-8, and G-8.
- Zone Three covers F-10, F-11, Golra Sharif, G-9, G-10, G-11, and adjoining areas.
- Zone Four includes H-8, H-9, H-10, H-11, I-8, I-9, I-10, I-11, and surrounding sectors.
- Zone Five encompasses Highway, Model Village Humak, Shahzad Town, Rawal Town, and Margalla Town.
Over 2,500 sanitation workers, supervisory staff, and officers have been deployed on an emergency basis, supported by 250 vehicles, including tractor trolleys, garbage compactors, skip lifters, dump trucks, front loaders, shovels, and bulldozers. Additionally, Eid holidays for relevant staff have been canceled to ensure smooth operations.
A total of 107 disposal pits have been dug at 55 designated locations across the city, adhering to health and safety standards. The CDA has also distributed biodegradable plastic bags in urban and rural areas to facilitate proper waste disposal.
Residents have been urged to avoid slaughtering animals in open spaces and instead use designated communal slaughter points. Dumping offal in drains, forests, or regular trash bins is strictly prohibited, with legal action promised against violations.
Emergency cells have been established at the Sanitation Directorate’s G-6/1-4 office and Transport Section’s Fire Headquarters in G-7/4, operational round the clock. Citizens can report complaints via helpline numbers 1334, 9213908, 9203216, 9211555, or WhatsApp/SMS at 0335-5001213.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized public cooperation, stating that timely waste disposal is crucial to preventing disease outbreaks. The cleanliness drive will continue on the second and third days of Eid.
The CDA administration has also coordinated with union councils in rural areas, including Bhara Kahu, Sihala, and Tarnol, to ensure comprehensive sanitation services. Private housing societies have been instructed to liaise with assistant commissioners for compliance.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to responsibly dispose of animal waste at designated sites to maintain hygiene and public health during the festive period.
