Islamabad( The COW News Digital ) Internal divisions within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have resurfaced as core committee member Mishal Yousafzai openly criticized Sher Shah, son of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, raising questions over alleged preferential treatment in legal proceedings related to the May 9–10 incidents.

Taking to social media, Mishal Yousafzai shared video footage of Sher Shah from the controversial days of May 9 and 10, 2023—when violent protests erupted across Pakistan following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The protests led to attacks on military installations and public buildings, resulting in a widespread crackdown on PTI leaders and workers.

In her post, Mishal questioned how Sher Shah, despite clear video evidence of his presence during the events, was able to receive significant legal relief, while many senior party members remain underground and workers languish in jail. She contrasted his case with that of Hasan Niazi, Imran Khan’s legal adviser and nephew, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison over similar charges and footage.

“Why are some being given blanket protection while others are being sacrificed?” Mishal asked, adding that such disparity is demoralizing loyal party members and damaging PTI’s internal unity.

The remarks have reignited debate within PTI over perceived favoritism and lack of transparency in handling post-May 9 legal fallout. Party insiders have expressed concern that selective relief and internal power struggles could further fracture the party, especially with Imran Khan still behind bars and the party leadership under immense pressure.

While neither Aleema Khan nor Sher Shah have responded to Mishal’s remarks, the silence has added to the speculation of unresolved tensions within the party’s top ranks. The timing of the criticism is also seen as crucial, as PTI struggles to rebuild its image ahead of expected by-elections later this year.

Political analysts say such public discord reflects deeper strategic and ideological divides within PTI regarding its future direction, leadership structure, and handling of post-crackdown narratives.

As PTI continues to face external legal challenges and internal discontent, the party’s cohesion is being tested more than ever. Observers warn that if unresolved, these divisions could undermine PTI’s position as a cohesive political force in Pakistan’s turbulent landscape.
