Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and US Ambassador Donald Blome held a meeting to discuss bilateral relations, anti-terror cooperation, and cricket diplomacy. Naqvi highlighted the importance of US assistance in capacity building for law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and expressed interest in cooperation between Islamabad Police and the New York Police. A delegation of Islamabad Police is set to visit New York for training and to explore opportunities for cooperation.
The minister assured the envoy that all minorities in Pakistan enjoy equal rights under the constitution and that the government is committed to their protection. He also informed Blome that all perpetrators of the Jarranwala incident have been arrested and brought to justice.
The two officials discussed the success of the recent T-20 Cricket World Cup in the USA and plans for a tri-series between Pakistan, the USA, and Canada, as well as a cricket league in the USA and Canada.
Both Naqvi and Blome agreed to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism and narcotics, with the interior minister emphasizing the importance of US assistance in this regard.
The meeting was also attended by Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and Islamabad IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi.
