The Indus river is currently flowing at a moderate flood level, affecting villages along its banks in Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, and Kot Chitta tehsil. At least five villages have been submerged, according to the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Meanwhile, monsoon rains are expected in most districts of Punjab in the next two days, with strong winds and thundershowers predicted.

The PDMA has reported rainfall in various districts, including Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Chakwal, Gujarat, Murree, and Khanpur, in the last 24 hours. The water level in rivers, dams, and canals is increasing due to the monsoon rains, posing a risk of flooding in the Chenab and Ravi rivers from August 7 to 13.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has confirmed that all arrangements are in place to address the possible flood risk, but urged citizens to take precautionary measures and follow government guidelines. This year’s monsoon season has already claimed 55 lives and injured 145 others in accidents attributed to lightning and building collapses.
