President Asif Ali Zardari has strongly backed the decisions made by Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) in response to India’s recent actions following the Pahalgam incident, stating that the committee’s measures echo the voice of the Pakistani nation.
The President made these remarks after a detailed briefing by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who updated him on the developments in Indo-Pak relations and the measures adopted by the NSC in response to what Pakistan terms as India’s “irresponsible and baseless allegations.”
India’s Accusations and Pakistan’s Reaction
Following the attack in Pahalgam, India accused Pakistan of being involved, leading to a suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a diplomatic freeze, and threats of further unilateral actions. Pakistan has categorically denied the allegations and dismissed them as unsubstantiated and politically motivated.
President Zardari emphasized that India’s baseless claims and illogical actions lack any justification, adding that the Pakistani nation stands firmly behind the NSC’s decisions.
Pakistan’s Counter-Measures
In a decisive meeting held yesterday, the NSC announced several retaliatory steps against India, including:
- Complete suspension of ground trade between Pakistan and India
- Closure of Pakistani airspace for Indian aircraft
- Declaration of Indian diplomats as persona non grata, ordering them to leave the country
- Warning of a strong response if India attempts to tamper with Pakistan’s water rights
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, speaking after the meeting with the President, stated:
President Zardari reaffirmed the nation’s unity behind the government’s stance:
The developments come amid rising regional tensions and global calls for restraint. Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to peace but warned it will respond decisively to any provocation threatening its territorial integrity or vital interests.
