Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, revealed that following Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes, India approached the United States and other global powers to request a ceasefire.

Speaking during Geo News’ program Naya Pakistan, Rana Sana stated, “As a nation and a state, we made it clear from day one—we won’t initiate conflict, but if our sovereignty is challenged, we will respond. And we did.”

He emphasized that India, which initially refused all diplomatic engagement, was compelled to back down due to the severity of Pakistan’s countermeasures. “After our response, India was forced to turn to the U.S. Vice President and other nations for a ceasefire,” he claimed.

Rana Sana warned against placing too much faith in India’s willingness to resolve matters through dialogue, stating, “Expecting India to handle issues at the negotiating table is unrealistic based on past behavior.”

The advisor also hinted at a firm approach on the water dispute, promising a similar response as seen in the recent confrontation. He stressed that the Kashmir issue has been reignited globally, and that it remains a non-negotiable priority for Pakistan.

His remarks follow a statement from CNN’s International Diplomatic Editor Nick Robertson, who confirmed that multiple international efforts to mediate a ceasefire had failed until India launched airstrikes on Pakistan’s airbases. Robertson noted that Pakistan’s missile barrage forced India to seek peace, marking a dramatic turn in the crisis.

The CNN journalist further added that diplomatic intervention from the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Turkey was instrumental in securing the eventual ceasefire.
