Washington: U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has been advised to maintain distance from Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), due to the potential risks his politics pose to American interests.

In a recent editorial published by the Washington Examiner, Trump was cautioned against aligning with Khan, whose political strategies have been described as anti-American and potentially harmful to U.S. foreign policy objectives.

The article highlighted that Imran Khan has often capitalized on anti-American sentiment to boost his domestic popularity. His positions on key issues, such as his support for the Taliban, criticism of the war on terror, and controversial remarks regarding Osama bin Laden, have frequently clashed with U.S. interests in the region.

The editorial further noted that Khan’s unpredictable and polarizing nature makes him a liability in the context of international relations. Given the complexities of U.S.-Pakistan ties, any association with him could strain bilateral relations.

“The U.S. cannot afford another diplomatic crisis,” the piece warned, emphasizing that Washington’s best course of action would be to keep a safe distance from Khan to ensure stability in its relationship with Pakistan. The fragile balance of shared interests and regional peace depends on avoiding any unnecessary entanglements with PTI’s leadership.
