In a surprising turn of events, Mehmood Khan Azakhzai, the nominated negotiator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has refused to engage in talks with the establishment. This development comes after Imran Khan expressed his willingness to negotiate with the army, suggesting that the army appoint a representative for the talks.
Federal Defense Minister Khawaja Asif revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Azakhzai had denied claims of representing Imran Khan in negotiations with the establishment. Asif described Imran Khan’s proposal as “frivolous and political maneuvering” and stated that Azakhzai had confirmed his refusal to play a negotiation role in the National Assembly session.
Despite this setback, Imran Khan remains open to negotiations with the army. He has clarified that the PTI has never leveled allegations against the army but has only criticized it when necessary. However, he has accused Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi of being an army representative and has opposed any dialogue with him, citing oppression of PTI supporters.
Imran Khan has also addressed the judiciary, requesting Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamir Farooq to withdraw from his cases to ensure fairness. He has urged the transfer of his cases to another judge, citing principles of justice.
This development highlights the complex political landscape in Pakistan, with Imran Khan’s PTI party seeking to navigate its relationship with the establishment and the judiciary.
