Peshawar, (News Desk)Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Yousafzai has asserted that any potential conviction of party chairman Imran Khan will not impact the ongoing negotiations with the government.
In a statement regarding the ongoing talks, Yousafzai emphasized that PTI has no objections to submitting their demands in writing to the government’s negotiation committee. However, he pointed out that their demands are already clear: the release of all party workers and the formation of a judicial commission. “I don’t believe there is any need to write down these demands,” he added.
Yousafzai explained that delays in the negotiation process have occurred because PTI’s negotiating committee has not been allowed to meet with Imran Khan. “Until the negotiating committee meets with Imran Khan, we cannot present any formal demands to the government,” he said, noting that while the government’s committee could meet their leader at any time, PTI’s committee has been denied the right to meet with Imran Khan in jail.
The PTI leader further stated that if the government is serious about speeding up the negotiation process, it should facilitate PTI’s committee. Referring to the ongoing 190 million pounds case, Yousafzai dismissed it as a baseless case, asserting that even if a conviction occurs, it will be overturned in the High Court.
Regarding the broader negotiation strategy, Yousafzai made it clear that Imran Khan is not seeking any deal through negotiations. “The negotiations will continue regardless of the conviction because we are not looking for a deal through these talks,” he said. He also confirmed that the civil disobedience movement launched by PTI would continue alongside the negotiations.
Yousafzai concluded by stating that the continuation of talks would depend on the seriousness of the government representatives involved in the negotiations. “These talks are not about striking a deal,” he emphasized.
