Islamabad: Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated that individuals associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan are willing to go to any lengths. He questioned the integrity of a party where members conspire against one another, saying, “If a party’s own members are fighting amongst themselves, what can be expected from them in dealing with other political groups?”
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader claimed that certain individuals tied to Imran Khan were intentionally spreading false narratives and propaganda, particularly concerning alleged mistreatment of the former prime minister.
Rana Sanaullah referenced a social media video in which Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, was reportedly seen speaking with PTI social media operator Ahsan Khan about Mashal Yousafzai. The conversation also reportedly touched upon Imran Khan’s jail conditions, with Aleema Khan suggesting that no attention should be drawn to his privileges in prison, as this could weaken the political narrative of PTI.
The minister explained that the video and its contents were indicative of a deliberate propaganda campaign portraying Imran Khan as a victim of government oppression in jail. He also reminded the public of a previous statement by Aleema Khan, where she claimed there were discussions about poisoning Imran Khan in jail, while also mentioning the political advantages his imprisonment could bring to the party.
Rana Sanaullah further clarified that, according to jail protocols, Imran Khan was receiving all necessary facilities. He dismissed PTI’s claims of mistreatment, noting that the government had previously refuted such allegations.
The minister also pointed out that the references to individuals such as Bushra Bibi, Sheer Afzal Marwat, and Ali Amin Gandapur in the video were significant, as they highlighted internal conflicts within PTI’s leadership. “This party is in disarray, with members at odds not just with each other, but with other political factions as well,” he remarked.
Rana Sanaullah accused PTI of using social media-based propaganda to build its popularity, a strategy that, according to him, has now backfired, with the party’s own fabricated narratives coming to light.
Regarding PTI’s stance on political instability, he claimed that the party’s ultimate goal was to prevent Pakistan from achieving economic progress, causing further political unrest. However, he asserted that the current government had successfully tackled major challenges and was moving towards economic recovery.
On the issue of the November 26 protests, Rana Sanaullah dismissed allegations of deaths, stating that no concrete evidence had been presented to back up these claims, nor had anyone approached the courts.
Regarding the potential for talks with PTI, he emphasized that the government had always been open to dialogue, and the Prime Minister had included all coalition partners in the negotiation committee to ensure a comprehensive approach.
