In a fiery tirade, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding leader Imran Khan has alleged that the establishment is responsible for the disappearance of Ali Amin Gandapur, a close aide. Khan claimed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has remained silent on the issue due to loyalty and respect for the establishment.
Speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail on Friday, Khan drew parallels between the current situation in Pakistan and the era of Yahya Khan, accusing the establishment of undermining the country’s institutions. He lamented the erosion of public trust in the police and lower judiciary, citing an alleged incident of a judge taking instructions before ruling against Bushra Bibi.
Khan welcomed Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s statement against extending tenures for military and judicial officials, expressing relief that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief does not support such extensions. He also criticized Nawaz Sharif for allegedly attacking the judiciary by offering extensions, specifically targeting Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa over the issue.
The PTI chairman attributed Pakistan’s lack of foreign investment to the absence of rule of law, comparing it unfavorably to countries like Singapore. He emphasized the importance of overseas Pakistanis in the country’s future and reiterated his claim that Gandapur was disappeared by elements within the establishment.
Khan expressed frustration over the delay in the progress on the Toshakhana case, accusing the Chief Election Commissioner of colluding with certain judges to target PTI. He also claimed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requires approval for every decision and could soon face a similar fate of disappearance.
