Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has endorsed his earlier statement that he directed his party workers to stage a peaceful protest outside the military’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi before his arrest last year. This comes despite the PTI leadership’s denial of Khan’s admission.
Khan stated that he had told the party to stage a peaceful protest outside GHQ if he gets arrested, and that he had mentioned this a dozen times during investigations. He also claimed that the protest wasn’t peaceful because the riots were “pre-planned”.
The former premier has been embroiled in a series of cases for his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots, which saw several military and state installations being vandalized. Despite securing relief in many cases, Khan remains behind bars.
Khan also clarified his earlier statement “only animals are neutral”, saying that he meant to say that the army is non-partisan, not neutral like animals.
