Rawalpindi:
Former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has rejected an offer to be placed under house arrest, insisting instead on political change in the country.
According to a report by Arab News, Imran Khan, currently imprisoned at Adiala Jail, turned down a deal that would have allowed him to be placed under house arrest at his residence in Bani Gala. He claimed in a post on a social media platform that the government had proposed this deal in exchange for his party being granted political opportunities.
Khan emphasized that he would rather remain in jail than accept such a deal and demanded the immediate release of all PTI prisoners.
Furthermore, the PTI founder called on overseas Pakistanis to boycott remittances, describing it as a crucial step for the restoration of democracy and real freedom in the country. He urged that remittances should be withheld until the government takes meaningful steps to address his demands. However, Khan suggested that the campaign could be called off if the negotiations lead to positive outcomes.
Khan also criticized the trials of PTI workers involved in the events of May 9, which are being conducted in military courts. He condemned the trials as a violation of transparency and citizens’ rights, calling for the trials to be held in open courts with video evidence, as required by Pakistan’s constitution.
It is noteworthy that formal negotiations between the government and PTI to ease political tensions have begun, with the first round already concluded.
