Jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to undergo a polygraph test and voice matching test as part of an investigation into last year’s violence in the country. A 12-member forensic team arrived at Adiala Jail to conduct the tests, but Khan declined, citing ongoing investigations by other institutions.

Khan’s Refusal

Khan, 71, faces over 200 cases and has been in jail since August last year. He was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a 190-million-pound corruption case. The Lahore police team, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, arrived at the prison premises to conduct the tests, but Khan answered questions for only 15 minutes before refusing to undergo the tests.

Background

The May 9 riots in 2023 were triggered across Pakistan after Khan’s arrest. The PTI founder denied giving orders for vandalizing state properties but acknowledged asking his party to stage a peaceful protest outside the General Headquarters (GHQ) in case of his arrest. Civil and military authorities have accused Khan of planning the May 9 conspiracy, a claim he vehemently rejects.
