PESHAWAR: There is no immediate threat to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as Imran Khan has not discussed any change in the KP government.
However, Imran Khan has raised concerns about governance issues in the province and has ordered investigations into corruption allegations involving three ministers.
Three senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, who recently met Imran Khan, told this correspondent that he had received complaints of corruption against certain ministers, which left him deeply upset. In response, he directed the party’s provincial leadership to investigate the allegations.
These leaders confirmed that there has been no discussion about replacing Ali Amin as chief minister. However, Imran Khan asked Atif Khan to suggest a name for the PTI provincial leadership. Atif Khan recommended Junaid Akbar Khan for the role.
Speaking on anonymity, a party leader revealed that Bushra Bibi has played a pivotal role in recent party changes. During her time in Peshawar, she held separate meetings with key leaders. Bushra Bibi believes that party and government roles should be distinctly separate. She also briefed Imran Khan about the performance of the party and the provincial government.
When contacted, Atif Khan confirmed that Imran Khan had sought a nomination for the provincial president a few days ago. In their first meeting, he proposed Junaid Akbar’s name, and during a subsequent meeting in jail, Imran Khan approved Junaid Akbar Khan for the position.
Atif Khan also shared that Imran Khan had sought his opinion on the corruption complaints against three ministers. He advised Imran Khan to make decisions only after thorough investigations, and after that, he ordered inquiries into the allegations.
Addressing the rumours about Ali Amin’s removal as chief minister, Atif Khan dismissed them as baseless. He confirmed that PTI Founder Chairman Imran Khan has not discussed replacing Ali Amin Gandapur, although the corruption complaints of ministers had caused concern.
Another PTI leader, speaking anonymously, disclosed that while there was no discussion about removing Ali Amin as chief minister, no consultation was held with him regarding his removal from the provincial presidency. He was reportedly not informed about the decision.
Meanwhile, in a conversation with this correspondent, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur clarified that he had requested Imran Khan to relieve him of the provincial presidency. He explained that managing both government affairs and the party’s provincial leadership was increasingly challenging, and he now intends to focus solely on governance. He said he has good relations with Junaid Akhbar Khan.
