PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar informed the media that the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, announced the end of negotiations with the government during a meeting in jail today.
Barrister Gohar stated that the government had committed to forming a commission within seven days, but as of now, no judicial commission has been formed regarding the events of May 9 and November 26. As a result, PTI has decided to end the talks.
He mentioned that he and other lawyers had met with Imran Khan today, where the PTI founder made it clear that, since the commission was not formed, the negotiations would be concluded. Imran Khan also stated that no further rounds of talks would take place.
Barrister Gohar expressed that PTI had hoped for the continuation of negotiations to resolve the issues, but the political differences were too significant, leading to a lack of progress. He also expressed disappointment that the government had made no announcements thus far.
He further clarified that if the commission is to be formed, it should consist of three senior judges from either the Supreme Court or the High Court. PTI will continue its struggle in line with the constitution and law, opposing the 26th Amendment and advocating for an independent judiciary.
Barrister Gohar emphasized that Imran Khan had made it clear that PTI would not wait for foreign assistance, and would instead join forces with all political parties to start a united struggle.
It is noteworthy that the day before, PTI leader and opposition leader in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub, had also stated that negotiations would not proceed unless the government announces a judicial commission.
On the other hand, a member of the government’s negotiation committee and Prime Minister’s adviser on political affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated that the government committee would present a written response to PTI’s demands within a couple of days.
