Karachi: IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has directed police officials to take strict action against unlicensed drivers operating vehicles in the province.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of IG Sindh to discuss the enforcement of traffic laws, attended by DIGs, SSPs of traffic, and other officials. During the meeting, the DIG Traffic highlighted issues such as encroachments, parking management, and poor infrastructure.

In response, IG Memon emphasized that strict actions must be taken against those violating traffic laws, and vehicles being driven by unlicensed drivers should be immediately impounded.

He further instructed the traffic police to avoid conducting general checks on roads.

In an exclusive conversation with ARY News on December 19, IG Memon had stated that traffic jams are largely caused by untrained driving. He made it clear that driving without a license would no longer be allowed, and such vehicles, including motorcycles, would be confiscated.

IG Memon also announced the introduction of a new system for the traffic police, stating that if the same person is fined twice, a case will be registered against them. With the help of e-tagging, habitual offenders will be closely monitored. He added that any SHO failing to register a case would be held accountable, and the SSP would need to provide an explanation.

He also addressed past practices of dealing with criminals in the Kacha (rural) areas, emphasizing that such deals would no longer be made, and operations would continue.

Memon revealed that in 2024, the police had arrested 21,000 criminals across the province, and the Kacha bandits had abducted 355 citizens. However, 344 of them had been rescued, with 11 still pending recovery.
