Washington: U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has issued a stern warning regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, threatening severe consequences if Israeli hostages are not released by Hamas. Speaking to the media, Trump emphasized his commitment to resolving global conflicts, including the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, as well as establishing a stable government in Syria.

Trump stated, “If a ceasefire agreement is not reached in Gaza before I take office, the results will be anything but pleasant. If the hostages are not freed, there will be catastrophic repercussions.” He further revealed that he has spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, promising to address the matter on January 20, the day he officially assumes office.

On the Ukraine conflict, Trump expressed his intent to mediate discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “Ending the Ukraine war will be a priority,” Trump said, while acknowledging the complexities of the situation. “The Russia-Ukraine issue is far more challenging than the Middle East, and I believe Ukraine should not be allowed to fire missiles into Russia. That would be a grave mistake,” he added.

Addressing the future of Syria, Trump highlighted the crucial role of Türkiye in establishing stability in the war-torn region. He reiterated his belief that regional actors would play a significant part in resolving the Syrian crisis.

The remarks come as reports suggest that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas may be imminent, raising hopes of a temporary end to hostilities.

Trump’s statements reflect his assertive approach to international conflicts, signaling a policy shift as he prepares to take on the presidency.
