Dubai( The COW News Digital)The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on Australian cricketer Tim David for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the fifth T20I match against the West Indies on July 28.

According to the statement released by the ICC, Tim David was fined 10 percent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during Australia’s innings. The incident occurred when David expressed frustration over a delivery that was not called a wide by the on-field umpire.

The ICC confirmed that the Australian batter was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” This breach is categorized as a Level 1 offence, the lowest level of misconduct in the ICC’s disciplinary code.

In addition to the financial penalty, Tim David was also handed one demerit point, which will remain on his disciplinary record for a period of 24 months. If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within that period, it can result in suspension from international matches.

Crucially, David accepted the charge and the sanction proposed by Match Referee Richie Richardson, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Gregory Brathwaite, along with third umpire Patrick Gustard and fourth umpire Leslie Reifer, were responsible for laying the charge.

Despite the disciplinary action, the Australian team concluded the five-match T20 series on a high note, completing a 5-0 whitewash over the West Indies. The dominant performance solidified Australia’s position as a formidable T20 side ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

This incident serves as a reminder that even minor outbursts on the field are subject to scrutiny under the ICC’s strict conduct policies. The governing body has reiterated its commitment to maintaining respect and sportsmanship across all formats of the game.

While David’s actions were not aggressive, the ICC aims to reinforce discipline and ensure umpires’ decisions are respected, regardless of the game situation. With the T20 World Cup drawing closer, players will be mindful of maintaining clean disciplinary records to avoid any disruptions to their participation.
