The world’s largest indoor ski resort, Shanghai L*SNOW Indoor Skiing Theme Resort, has officially opened in Shanghai after years of delays. The resort boasts a 90,000-square meter snow area and has been certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest indoor ski resort globally.
China’s growing interest in winter sports, fueled by government support and a expanding middle class, has led to a surge in indoor ski resort development. China now has half of the world’s top ten indoor ski resorts based on snow area.
The Shanghai resort’s opening ceremony took place in a faux-Alpine square, with temperatures inside the atrium plummeting to below zero. However, the soft opening period has not been without issues, with reports of an accident involving a severed finger, prompting the resort to add more safety measures.
