In a groundbreaking moment for the legal community and women’s empowerment, Justice Aalia Neelum has been sworn in as the first female Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC). The oath-taking ceremony, held at the Governor’s House in Lahore, marks a significant milestone in the history of Pakistan’s judiciary.

Justice Neelum’s elevation to the top post was unanimously approved by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), recognizing her exceptional career spanning over two decades. She will serve as Chief Justice until November 11, 2028.

The ceremony was attended by esteemed guests, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, judges, lawyers, and government officials. Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan administered the oath to Justice Neelum, congratulating her on her new role.

Justice Neelum’s distinguished career is marked by her expertise in Constitutional Law, White-Collar Crime, Civil, Criminal, and Anti-Terrorism laws, and Banking Laws. She has rendered 203 reported judgments on a wide range of legal issues and has been a strong advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Her contributions to the development of law and advocacy for women’s rights have inspired many within and beyond the legal community. Justice Neelum has also participated in international conferences, enhancing her expertise in areas such as intellectual property rights enforcement, criminal justice, legal literacy for women, and global cooperation among women judges.

The legal community has expressed confidence that CJ Neelum will lead the LHC with integrity, wisdom, and vision. Her appointment is a significant step forward for gender equality in Pakistan’s judiciary, inspiring future generations of women in law.
