Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem received a rousing welcome at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport after clinching a historic gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships held in Gumi, South Korea.
Nadeem, who had previously earned global fame at the Olympics, added another major accolade to his name by securing Pakistan’s first gold in the championship in over 50 years. His family, Pakistan Sports Board officials, and hundreds of fans gathered at the airport, waving flags and chanting slogans to greet the national hero.
Speaking to the media, Arshad thanked his parents, teammates, and the entire nation for their prayers and support. “This medal is for Pakistan,” he said. “We need to host athletics championships at home to nurture local talent.”
He emphasized the significance of the moment, noting that Pakistan had last won a gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championship in 1973. “InshaAllah, I aim to win gold for Pakistan in the upcoming World Athletics Championship as well,” he added confidently.
When asked about rising regional tensions, Arshad offered heartfelt praise for Pakistan’s armed forces. “The entire nation stands behind our brave military,” he declared.
Nadeem’s gold medal in javelin throw has reignited hopes for Pakistan’s track and field ambitions and has been widely hailed as a turning point for athletics in the country.
