Islamabad ( The COW News Digital)Widespread rain has brought pleasant weather to various parts of Pakistan, but the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for potentially severe weather conditions in the coming week. The latest forecast warns of heavy downpours, possible landslides in hilly areas, and flooding in low-lying regions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), westerly winds are currently influencing the upper regions of the country, with their intensity expected to increase from August 17. The department has predicted scattered showers in multiple regions until then, but a more intense weather system is on the horizon.

From August 14 to 17, intermittent heavy rains are expected in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. These rains could cause temporary disruption in daily life, especially in vulnerable and mountainous areas. Travelers and residents in these regions are being advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.

The PMD further warned that from August 18 to 21, a countrywide spell of intense monsoon rains is expected, which could lead to flash floods in rural areas and urban flooding in major cities. Authorities have particularly highlighted the risk of landslides in hilly areas such as Murree, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Disaster management authorities are on high alert and have urged provincial administrations to prepare emergency response plans. Citizens living near riverbanks, nullahs, or in low-lying zones have been advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.

Experts have also raised concerns about the possible impact on agriculture, as prolonged heavy rains could damage standing crops in Punjab and Sindh. Power outages and road blockages are also likely in the affected areas.

This developing weather situation is part of the ongoing monsoon season, which has already brought above-normal rainfall to many regions in Pakistan. The combination of active monsoon currents and westerly disturbances is expected to intensify the weather pattern over the next ten days.

The PMD will continue to monitor the evolving conditions and provide updates. In the meantime, residents are advised to prepare for severe weather, keep emergency supplies ready, and ensure safe shelter during heavy rains.
