Pakistan is bracing itself for severe weather conditions, with heavy rains and flash floods expected to hit several provinces in the coming days. The Met Department has issued a warning for heavy rains across Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan from August 26 to 29, posing a significant risk of flooding and landslides.
The flash flood alert issued for south Punjab has put authorities on high alert, with the Dera Ghazi Khan commissioner and deputy commissioners of Rajanpur and DG Khan alerted to take necessary precautions. The heavy rains are expected to affect several districts in south Punjab, including Rajanpur, DG Khan, and Muzaffargarh.
In Sindh, cities such as Karachi, Thatta, and Badin are expected to experience heavy downpours from August 25 to 29, with a risk of flooding in low-lying areas. Balochistan’s regions, including Quetta, Kalat, and Lasbela, will face intense rainfall between August 26 and 30, raising concerns about flooding and landslides.
The northern areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, face a heightened risk of landslides during this period. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and central Punjab are also expected to experience heavy rains, with a risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
The severe weather conditions have sparked concerns about the growing dengue fever problem in Lahore, where three new patients were reported recently. The accumulation of rainwater has been linked to an increase in dengue cases.
