LAHORE (The COW News Digital) The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning for potential flash floods in low-lying areas and the risk of landslides in hilly regions as heavy monsoon rains continue to lash the province.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, torrential rainfall is expected in Lahore and other upper parts of Punjab in the coming days. In the past 24 hours, Narowal recorded the highest rainfall at 58mm, followed by Lahore with 27mm, Kasur 15mm, Murree 14mm, Sialkot 7mm, Jhelum 5mm, and Mangla and Gujrat with 1mm each.

The current spell of monsoon rains, the fifth so far this season, is expected to persist until July 31, the PDMA stated. In response, the Provincial Control Room and District Emergency Operation Centers have been placed on high alert across the region.

The PDMA has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Murree, Galiyat, Mianwali, Narowal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Toba Tek Singh, Mandi Bahauddin, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The authority has warned that continued downpours may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas due to overflowing streams and nullahs. Additionally, landslides are possible in mountainous regions like Murree and the Galiyat.

Citizens have been urged to stay informed about the latest weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain vigilant in areas prone to flooding or landslides. In case of any emergency, the public is advised to immediately contact the relevant local authorities or emergency services.

The PDMA also reminded the public to take precautionary measures such as securing belongings, avoiding flood-prone zones, and following official advisories. Emergency response teams and resources have already been mobilized across sensitive districts to respond to any natural disaster or infrastructure failure resulting from the rains.

Officials are closely monitoring weather conditions in coordination with the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and further alerts will be issued as needed. The ongoing monsoon system has already affected multiple parts of Pakistan, prompting both provincial and federal disaster response units to remain on standby.
