Islamabad ( The COW News Digital)The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir today, as weather systems continue to affect large parts of the country.

Islamabad and its surrounding areas experienced late-night showers accompanied by thunder and lightning, bringing relief from the humid weather and turning the atmosphere cooler and more pleasant.

According to the latest weather advisory, scattered rain with isolated heavy downpours is likely across parts of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Murree, and Abbottabad, among other areas. The intensity of rain may cause urban flooding in low-lying zones and disrupt transportation in some cities.

Meanwhile, the southern parts of Pakistan, including Karachi and other coastal regions of Sindh, are expected to remain partly cloudy, with light showers or drizzle possible at a few locations, especially during the early morning or late evening hours.

Meteorologists say that the ongoing monsoon activity is normal for this time of year, but isolated heavier spells may occur due to strong moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) Lahore reported low-level flooding at Guddu and Sukkur barrages on the Indus River, while all other rivers and their tributaries are flowing normally at their respective headworks.

The FFD also advised provincial disaster management authorities to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone districts, and ensure contingency measures are in place. So far, no major emergency has been reported.

Authorities have urged the public to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and stay updated with PMD advisories. Citizens in mountainous regions and areas prone to landslides have been specifically warned to exercise caution.

Today’s forecast comes amid growing concerns over climate change’s impact on monsoon patterns, with experts urging the government to invest in better drainage infrastructure and flood management systems to cope with recurring weather extremes.

With more rain expected in the coming days, the PMD will continue to monitor the evolving situation and issue alerts accordingly.
