Karachi ( The COW News Digital) experienced another spell of rain on Thursday, with varying intensity across the city, once again disrupting daily life and leaving several areas waterlogged. The rain, which began early in the morning, caused flooding in low-lying neighborhoods and severely affected traffic flow on major roads.
According to local reports, light showers were recorded in Garden, Teen Hatti, Nishtar Road, and Lasbela, while other parts of the city experienced heavier downpours. The downpour also led to the closure of key traffic routes, including Korangi Nullah and the Causeway, as water levels rose dangerously high.
Authorities confirmed that sections of the Causeway Road have caved in at multiple points due to heavy rainfall and water erosion. In some areas, entire portions of the road were washed away, prompting traffic police to divert vehicles to alternative routes. The closures have led to long traffic jams and significant delays for commuters.
“Safety is our priority. The roads are unsafe for travel right now,” a city administration official said, urging residents to avoid unnecessary movement, especially near Korangi and Causeway areas. To prevent accidents, police personnel have been stationed at all entry points leading to these closed roads, stopping motorists from using the damaged routes.
Residents reported severe inconvenience, with many commuters stranded for hours. Public transport operators also faced difficulties, as buses were unable to pass through the flooded areas. Shopkeepers in low-lying commercial areas complained of rainwater entering their shops, causing financial losses.
The city’s drainage system once again came under criticism, as rainwater accumulation highlighted Karachi’s chronic infrastructure issues. Citizens took to social media to share videos of inundated streets and demand swift action from municipal authorities.
Meteorological officials warned that intermittent rain is expected to continue in the city over the next 24 hours, urging authorities to remain on high alert. Emergency services have been directed to be prepared for possible evacuations or rescue operations if the water levels rise further.
Urban planners have stressed the urgent need for long-term measures to address Karachi’s drainage and road maintenance problems, which resurface every monsoon season and cause recurring damage to infrastructure.
With traffic diversions in place and water levels still high, city officials have urged citizens to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to monitor official advisories for updates on road conditions.
