Karachi ( The COW News Digital)Heavy monsoon rains continued across Karachi, causing widespread flooding, traffic disruptions, and claiming the lives of at least 19 people over the past two days. Multiple areas in the city experienced heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds, leaving streets submerged and vehicles stranded.

Several incidents were reported due to falling debris and accidents during the rain. Large rocks tumbled onto roads from Kati Pahari, causing massive traffic jams and narrowly avoiding casualties. In Gulshan-e-Hadeed, a mobile tower collapsed, though no casualties were reported.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded significant rainfall in various parts of the city. Shahrah-e-Faisal recorded the highest rainfall at 19.6 mm, followed by Orangi Town at 15 mm, and Jinnah Terminal at 11.4 mm. Other areas included Kemari (9 mm), DHA (8 mm), Met Office (7.6 mm), Old Airport Area (5.8 mm), Korangi (6.8 mm), and North Karachi with the lowest at 1.7 mm.

Authorities reported that the 19 fatalities included women and children. In Gulistan-e-Johar, a house wall collapsed, killing two women and three children. Additionally, an 8-year-old boy lost his life in Orangi Town at Dabba Mor. Rescue teams have been deployed across the city to assist affected residents and clear blocked roads.

Due to the ongoing heavy rain, several private schools announced closures for the following day to ensure the safety of students. Major roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Malir, Korangi, and areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme 33, Defence, PECHS, and New Karachi, have been severely affected. Authorities issued warnings for residents to remain cautious, particularly near hilly areas where landslides and falling debris are a risk.

Meteorologists have predicted that the monsoon rains may continue until August 21, 2025, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors where possible. Local authorities and disaster management teams are actively monitoring the situation to prevent further loss of life and property.

The heavy rains once again highlighted Karachi’s vulnerability to monsoon-related flooding, with urban infrastructure struggling to cope with sudden water accumulation. Residents have been advised to follow safety guidelines, remain alert, and assist emergency teams where needed.
