Hassan Nawaz, the eldest son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), has been declared a tax defaulter in the United Kingdom. The British government has imposed a hefty fine of £5.2 million on him for failing to pay taxes amounting to nearly £9.4 million between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016.
According to the UK’s official website, Hassan Nawaz, a property dealer with assets including the Avenfield House in Park Lane, London, did not fulfill his tax obligations during the specified period. The UK tax authority has now published details of the fine on its official portal.
In a related development, Hassan Nawaz declared himself bankrupt last November in an attempt to evade tax evasion charges. Reports confirm that he was officially declared bankrupt by the British government’s Tax Revenue Department in a case filed in August 2023.
The London High Court declared Hassan Nawaz bankrupt in case number 694 of 2023, with a ruling issued on August 25, 2023.
Under UK law, tax evasion fines are not waived even in the event of bankruptcy, and such offenses are regarded as serious crimes.
