Pakistan’s star fast bowler, Haris Rauf, has expressed confidence in his fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting Wednesday.
The pacer, who recently suffered an injury scare during the tri-nation series against New Zealand and South Africa, has resumed training and remains hopeful of featuring in Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a practice session, Rauf assured that he was recovering well and had already begun bowling again.
“I am feeling better than before. I have practiced for two days and bowled today,” he said. “I am satisfied with my fitness and not feeling any pain, but the final decision rests with the management whether I will play against New Zealand or not.”
Rauf, who sustained a muscular sprain in the lower chest wall region during Pakistan’s opening game of the tri-series against New Zealand, was subsequently replaced by left-arm fast bowler Akif Javed for the remainder of the series.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clarified that the replacement was only temporary and that Rauf was expected to be fully fit for the Champions Trophy.
The 30-year-old speedster also spoke about Pakistan’s bowling combination for the upcoming tournament, emphasizing that the team has a well-rounded attack with both pace and spin options.
“Our bowling unit is not limited to only one spinner. We also have Khushdil Shah and Agha Salman, who can contribute as spinners depending on the conditions,” he stated.
In a promising sign for Pakistan fans, Rauf was seen actively participating in the team’s training session in Karachi, bowling alongside fellow pacers Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain.
His return to full training suggests that he is on track for a potential selection in Pakistan’s first game of the tournament.
