Chairman of Pakistan Ulema Council, Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, has responded to the statement made by Richard Grenell, the nominated Special Advisor for the newly elected U.S. President.
Ashrafi questioned why the U.S. and Europe do not address the issue of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, and why they fail to see the plight of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who remains in custody. He criticized the lack of focus on human rights violations.
Regarding Grenell’s statement about the founder of PTI being released from jail, Ashrafi stated that military courts have been in place since the tenure of the PTI founder. He reiterated that Pakistan is an independent and sovereign nation, and any attempt to blackmail Pakistan will be rejected.
Ashrafi emphasized that Pakistan’s judiciary, including military courts, is independent and makes free decisions. He urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to effectively address the U.S. statement at international forums.
Furthermore, Ashrafi stated that the issue of madrassa registration will be resolved and announced plans to hold an All-Party Conference next week, where Maulana Fazlur Rehman will be invited.
