The family of former England cricketer Graham Thorpe has revealed that he took his own life after struggling with depression and anxiety for several years. Thorpe’s wife, Amanda, shared the news in an interview with The Times, explaining that despite their love and support, Thorpe believed they would be better off without him.

Thorpe, who played 100 Test matches and 82 one-day internationals for England, had been suffering from major depression and anxiety since 2022. He attempted suicide two years ago and was hospitalized in May 2022 after a serious attempt on his life.

Amanda Thorpe emphasized that mental illness is a real disease that can affect anyone, regardless of their physical health or mental strength. She hopes that sharing their story will help raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health.
