Peshawar: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, has emphasized the sacrifices made by the people of Kurram and reiterated the state’s responsibility to maintain peace and provide essential services.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Governor Kundi highlighted the persistent challenges faced by the region. “Kurram’s situation is well-known. Our neighboring country has often been the battleground for superpowers, and abandoned weapons from these conflicts are now being used against Pakistan,” he stated.
The governor expressed concern over anti-state elements still operating in Kurram, adding, “We pray for the implementation of the recent peace agreement. Ensuring law and order, protecting citizens, and providing basic amenities is the state’s responsibility.”
Recognition of Kurram’s Sacrifices
Kundi acknowledged the hardships endured by the people of Kurram, who have witnessed significant bloodshed and made countless sacrifices. “Road blockades have caused immense difficulties for the people of Kurram. These issues, hopefully, will be resolved following the agreement,” he said.
Criticism of Provincial Government
The governor criticized the provincial government for its lack of seriousness in addressing Kurram’s issues, stating that their negligence led to protests across the country, including Karachi. “The problem originated in Kurram, but demonstrations were held elsewhere. Protests should have targeted the provincial government, particularly outside its assembly,” he remarked.
He also called out provincial government allies representing Kurram in the National Assembly, suggesting they should have protested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Protests were a democratic right, and they exercised it. However, their grievances should have been directed more effectively,” he added.
Condemnation of Treatment of Local Representatives
Kundi condemned the treatment of local government representatives, who were subjected to violence. “Those preaching against oppression in Islamabad mistreated their own representatives yesterday. Seeking rights through democratic means is not a crime,” he asserted.
Commitment to Support Local Representatives
The governor announced plans to host a convention at the Governor’s House for local government representatives, pledging to advocate for their rights. “We will remind the provincial government of its promises and stand with the representatives in their struggle,” he concluded.
