Islamabad: The government has developed a new plan for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and the implementation has already begun. According to sources, the government has proposed selling PIA to the government of Qatar or Abu Dhabi under a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement.
Sources revealed that after the cancellation of the bid of 10 billion rupees by Blue World Consortium, the government formulated a new plan. Under this new plan, applications have been requested from Qatar or Abu Dhabi by November 30 to express interest in acquiring PIA.
According to the report, many of PIA’s terms in this agreement could already be pre-determined, and the government believes this step will help address the airline’s financial troubles and pull it out of crisis. A Government-to-Government agreement could prove to be a positive development for the future of PIA.
