Rawalpindi: Former federal minister Shireen Mazari and eight other accused have been formally charged in the GHQ attack case related to the events of May 9.
In a related development, senior PTI leader and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was transferred from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. However, the court postponed the indictment proceedings against him.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, presided over by Judge Amjad Ali Shah, conducted hearings for 14 cases connected to the May 9 incidents. During the session held at Adiala Jail, the court marked the attendance of all accused and adjourned 13 cases to January 6.
In a separate hearing, another case concerning the GHQ attack was taken up. Prominent political figures, including former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari, and ex-Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat, appeared before the court.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi was brought to Adiala Jail for the proceedings, while PTI Chairman Imran Khan was also presented in court during the hearing.
Prosecution sought the cancellation of bail for 23 absentees, including KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, due to their continuous non-appearance.
The court formally framed charges against Shireen Mazari, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Khadim Hussain, Zakirullah, Azeemullah Khan, Major (R) Tahir Sadiq, Mehr Muhammad Javed, and Chaudhry Asif. All accused were issued notices, and the hearing was adjourned until December 19 for further proceedings.
